LG's Battle of the QWERTY

06/26/08 | by admin [mail]

It was a knock down drag out war at the Toronto Eaton Centre today as local tech journalists, in fine form, competed in the first leg of the LG Canadian Texting Competition.

Media competed before the stage was opened to the public to have a go.
Yours truly came in second with a time of 10.08 seconds, trumped moments later by Marc Saltzman’s 10.07 seconds. Each time a first-place score was beaten, $1,000 was added to the kitty by LG with all proceeds going to a charity, chosen by the overall winner.

Saltzman chose Sick Kids as his charity of choice. $8,000 was raised.

The details

The LG Canadian Texting Competition will be touring the country and is open to all participants. The tour continues with regional qualifying tournaments around the country until returning to Toronto on August 26, 2008 at the Diesel Playhouse where finalists will compete for up to $25,000 in cash and prizes including a $5,000 trip for two to Cancun, Mexico provided by Breakaway Tours. Two regional qualifiers will be chosen from BC, the Midwest Region (AB, SK, MB), Ontario and the Eastern Region (QP + Maritimes).
